Why we're here

Anti-Human Trafficking + Education
  • Anti-Human Trafficking
  • Education

Human Trafficking is the sale, kidnapping, coercion and exploitation of vulnerable people, resulting in slavery and abuse, of which a significant part is, of a sexual nature.

we can't believe that slavery still exists today, it's simply horrible

It is an issue that we have not been able to shake from our mind or our hearts and is something we believe is worth dedicating our lives to be apart of the solution.

This year we have moved to Romania for a fixed term of 9 months to do what can and join the fight against Human Trafficking. We will be volunteering for an organisation named Abolishion, who exist to break the systems that keep people in sex slavery. They are aiming to start the first restoration home for survivors of human trafficking in their region this year and we are really excited to be apart of the solution here in Romania!

Education is so important, I am not sure that anyone can say that it isn't. We can discuss which models are better and what works more effectively in different settings, however, the bottom line, and this is what I believe, is that a good education can improve an individuals quality of life.

Currently the Roma children near where we live aren't attending school regularly at all, they may be discriminated against and ultimately the lack of education feeds them back into the poverty cycle that their parents have lived out. While we're here Tim will be working with the Caleb Foundation on some educational programs to show the value of education to the community and create a healthier environment for the children to get an education.

We may also have the opportunity together of designing a program for school students educating them about Human Trafficking and raising awareness. Our hope is also that by assisting to improve the education of Roma children, there will be a reduced risk of them being trafficked and greater opportunities for them life.

Together

We've been married for nearly 5 years and before that we'd dated since our Year 12, so we've been together for a while...
In our spare time we love to go the beach, hang out with friends, GO CAMPING, listen to music, cook yummy food, or even better...go out to one of Melbourne's awesome brunch spots!

I love the beach, going out for coffee and chatting with friends and my favourite meal is brunch!

I have just completed a post-graduate diploma in psychology and will start my honors when we get back from Romania. I will most likely continue studying for a while and would love research into best practice models that shelters can use with survivors of human trafficking.

I love sport and music. Get me out on the soccer pitch or listening to something triple-j-esk and I am happy.

For the past 5 years I have been a high school Maths teacher and absolutely love my job :)
